When should you register for the LANTITE? A practical timeline for pre-service teachers
One of the most underrated decisions in your LANTITE preparation is when to sit. Register too early and you will not have had enough preparation time. Register too late and a failed attempt — with its 28-day re-sit window — could push past your graduation date.
When can you sit the LANTITE?
The LANTITE is available year-round at ACER-approved test centres across Australia. You register through the ACER website, select a test centre and time slot, and pay the sitting fee (around $196 per component). Registration closes a few weeks before your chosen test date, so you cannot leave it to the last minute.
When do most students sit?
Most pre-service teachers sit the LANTITE in their second or third year of their teaching degree — typically after completing at least one year of university. Some degrees require you to pass the LANTITE before your final year placements, which creates an earlier deadline than graduation itself.
Check your specific program requirements carefully. Your university’s education faculty will have guidance on when you need to have passed the test relative to your study progression and placement requirements.
The ideal preparation-to-sitting timeline
Work backwards from your intended sitting date:
- 4–8 weeks before: Begin active preparation — start with a diagnostic practice test, identify weak areas, work through targeted content.
- 2 weeks before: Shift to full practice test mode — complete 2–3 full timed tests in the final two weeks to build pace and confidence.
- 1 week before: Light revision only. Avoid cramming new content. Focus on reviewing your most common error types and making sure you are rested for test day.
Building in a safety margin
Do not register for the sitting closest to your graduation or placement deadline. Register for one that gives you at least 6–8 weeks of buffer — enough time to re-sit once if needed before your deadline arrives.
If you sit early and pass, great — you are done. If you sit early and need to re-sit, you have time. If you sit the week before your graduation deadline and fail, you are in a very stressful situation that could have been avoided.
How to register
Registrations are made through the ACER website at teacheredtest.acer.edu.au. Create an account, select your test components (numeracy, literacy, or both), choose a test centre and date, and pay the fee.
Before you register, make sure you have enough preparation time in your calendar. SN Academy’s free 14-day trial is a good starting point — full access to all courses and practice tests, no credit card required.
